Richard Rooney, MD, FACS

 
Dr. Rooney is a double board certified, fellowship trained orthopaedic spine surgeon. He was an All-American athlete as a cadet at the United States Military Academy and then attended medical school at Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland in the predecessor program to the Cleveland Clinic Medical School.
 
After medical school, he completed his Orthopaedic Surgery training in the Army and a Spine Surgery Fellowship at U.C. San Diego. Among his many awards while in practice in the Army; he was selected as the Clinical Travelling Fellow by the Scoliosis Research Society, the North American Spine Society and the Cervical Spine Research Society. He is the only surgeon to ever win all three of these awards.
 
His skill and accomplishments were recognized by Congress and was appointed as a Peer Reviewer for Congressional Directed Medical Research Programs in 2009 and 2011 in the fields of regenerative medicine in orthopaedics.
 
After leaving the Army in 2010, he joined The Polyclinic in Seattle and was recognized as a ‘Seattle Superdoctor’ in both 2011 and 2012. At the end of 2012, he left The Polyclinic to join Dr. Rich Wohns with hopes of developing the premiere Spine Surgery practice in the Seattle Metropolitan Region.
 
His professional focus is limited to conditions of the spinal column and includes problems associated with the cervical spine, the lumbar spine, previous failed surgery, spondylolisthesis, scoliosis and tumors.
